Mr. Rogers made me feel like an a-hole.

Yesterday I fell into the YouTube rabbit-hole…not while working mind you.

Never! No one ever does that! (toothy grin)

I’m trolling.. um strolling on my Facebook feed and low and behold someone posted the trailer to the A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood film starring Tom Hanks.

Side note: I can’t resist Tom Hanks (my only nice-guy crush) and I certainly can’t resist a good movie trailer. If done well, a good movie trailer can convert me to see just about anything…

Dang you Pikachu Pet Detective!

Here’s the rabbit-hole trajectory: I went from the trailer, to the 1998 Esquire article by Tom Junod which the movie is loosely based, to the Won’t You be my Neighbor Documentary, to a Megan Kelly interview with Fred Rogers’ widow, Joanne, and then landed on the Rogers’ 1983 interview on the Tonight Show with Joan Rivers!

I totally forgot she hosted the tonight show! Ah the good ole days!

During the interview, Rogers sings the beloved “I like You” song to Joan.

He sings, “ Its you I like, it’s not the way you do your hair, but it’s you I like… not your jokes, they’re just beside you…”

Her reaction is priceless. She pulls the green cardigan that Rogers has loaned her, right over her aqua-netted 80’s hair.

Joan F-ing Rivers dissolved into a four-year-old girl under his spell.

He was sweet and 100% sincere. No one does that kind of stuff anymore.

I might of cried a bit.

What can I say? Sometimes you DO want to be liked, as is.

That man believed everyone should be loved and valued, as they are.

Dear lord, that makes me an a-hole.

And from what I’ve read about him he was ALWAYS like this.

What’s left to say?

Watch. I’ll let you decide.

And while you do that, I’ll be over here blowing my nose with toilet paper and fixing my cover girl mascara.

I’m ruined, but not for long.

Peace & stuff.

Drea

P.S. Because I like you, just as you are, I’d like to hear how you feel about it.
